Motion and drive is provided by the silky smooth Rolls Royce 6.7litre V12 engine feeding into and equally smooth automatic gearbox with the column change gear selection. The engine produces some 453bhp and can move the car from standing to 60mph in a very respectable and effortless 5.7 seconds, with top speed at 150mph. This abundance of power is transmitted to the rear axle via a six-speed automatic gearbox, while air-sprung suspension and automatic level control ensured that ride quality remains uncompromised. At launch the body structure represented the ultimate in automotive technology, its specification and accoutrements remained entirely traditional consisting of the finest leather hides, genuine woollen carpets and carefully selected wood veneers. Certain dashboard features recalled those of earlier famous models, while the rear compartment features a ‘Theatre’ environment for passengers to travel in luxury.
The Phantom Mk VII as this model is known was the first all-new design to be introduced by the company following its takeover by BMW. Produced at a brand new factory near Goodwood in Sussex, the Phantom revived the great name of Rolls-Royce’s past that had always been synonymous with unrestrained luxury. In keeping with the tradition established by previous Phantoms, the newcomer was a very large motor car, outstretching the old Silver Seraph (the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royce) by 18 inches. The Phantom saloon was priced at £260,000 at the time of its launch and production ceased in 2016.
The car will be supplied with a full and comprehensive 12 months parts and labour warranty including RAC Breakdown and Recovery assistance for full peace of mind – £69,995
